ACHIEVEMENTS and HONOURS:

  • Appreciation Award(s) from the Ministry of Culture and Youth in Nassau The Bahamas. Acknowledged for several years promoting Junior Junkanoo, Bahamian indigenous dance and music in the Bahamas and Canada. Cavelle travelled to Toronto Canada with 33 students in the summer of 1997 and they performed with The World Music Festival at Harbourfront.   • Artist in Education Award (Inside In-formation) a pilot project co-sponsored by the Ontario Arts Council Toronto and the Frontenac Board of Education Kingston, Canada. Cavelle designed the Arts Curriculum and educators chose this pilot project for Teens At Risk. The goal was for students to enhance self-esteem and self-awareness by exploring open-discussion, multi-cultural music, journaling, visual arts making, poetry, theatre (Sophocles Antigone) as well as yoga instruction. See comments by both educators and students supporting Cavelle's ability to use all aspects of the Visual and Performing Arts as a tool for personal growth.
